Learn new ways of fishing
As a teenager I knew everything. I did not even know everything there is to know about fishery and knew he was good at it. Dad took me to the Ocean City inlet and fishing with what he knew always worked for us. Soon, I saw a young couple walking towards the entrance wall with a great brand, brand new tackle box, rods and white bags filled plastic fishing "stuff". I watched them as they settled and began to collect their new gear. After removing all stickers, pool bar open all the packages and set up their equipment I walked a little closer to their visit. They had small teams from top to bottom with two brilliant green bucktails attached to each. I do not see what the size of the pyramid ballast intended to throw the rocks covered barnacles, but I was sure he would be back.
Become more a father, very anxious to hear your comments on the test. At my surprise, did not seem very interested in my opinion, the methods the fisherman. In fact, even giving them a second look as I described details of their platforms. He kept looking over the ocean and quietly said: "I do not call, Sam."
Only several years later, and many other similar events, before I begin to understand why daddy was if impartial when fishing. My grandfather had a very systematic way of fishing. He learned to fish again in 1930 with little knowledge and very limited resources. Trendy bars surf bamboo and grandfather did his best with what was available. Finally, by trial and error, diligence and common sense, has become an excellent surf fisherman and accomplished. I grew up learning the techniques of fishing even tried and true and never recovered in question. As I am concerned, there was only one way to fish … The right way.
I was a man adult with a family of my own before starting to explore other fishing techniques. I'm sure I would have never bought several fishing conventional surf rods or consider putting "pearls" in my fishing line if it had "surfed" my right of passage into a new world of fishing.
Dad was very rare to catch the waves during the summer. He was convinced of the wave had not been fishing for the past years. I often tell stories of the day and grandfather, he would take buckets of mackerel, trout, bluefish and blowfish. Sometimes he would comment on how he felt guilty for fish, even if it was a big part of their diet.
A warm summer evening, I must I made the right mood because I wanted to go to the beach and try some "whiting" (mackerel). Shortly after his arrival, we started to take what they were planning to catch up with the same bait and tackle, tried and true platform up and down with a lead of three oz pyramid, small brass hooks perfect for mosquito larvae.
While we fished, I noticed a young and constantly catch release of flounder from the surf. Then, as if bored with fishing, walking laundry, sit down and do a hole in the sand. It was not long before curiosity best of me and that I should understand what I was doing different and why I did not know any of this. Indeed, it was the expulsion of a team more fun to watch, upper and lower house and was using sand fleas for bait. Slowly reel the hook and repeat this process until he had to put more chips on your hook or take other fish dishes. Had I not been so successful, I thought I just waste time and energy. I mean, they are supposed to leave your bait stay in place if you want to fish, right? I think Dad was as confused as I, but he never talked much of the bait. He wanted all the beautiful language of this type preserved launch again in the wash.
Was determined to find out why they flounder in the surf and sand fleas eat when he was in the bay to eat small fish, so I started looking for everything related to flounder tail Internet. I read on your eating habits, tolerance to water temperature, natural predators and more. I started to seek more information about the Delmarva surf fishing scene, specifically what type of sand fleas crazy, eating flounder had migrated to our surfing, when I found something that my heart pumping. I came across a site with fishing reports and pictures that blew my mind. These incredible fishing stories was written and presented by local fishermen, and not 20 years but in the last month. I was a little disappointed when I read about the annual migration of striped bass and were on the northern Delmarva. I had to wait another five months before their trip south, but soon forgotten catches of striped bass completely.
Overnight at Assateague, was about to pack up after the other good but less exciting fishing. It was getting dark, and never fish at night. As far as I know, fish do not biting after sunset. When I started packing my things, I remembered reading some fishermen who were fishing red drum on the airwaves of Virginia. Therefore, whereas it was not far from the Maryland / Virginia line, I caught the biggest hook in the tackle box, a quick tour of a slide to the left lead and a mackerel that had been before. I put the head of mackerel on the hook and threw my old cane as hard as I could. I was almost finished washing my fridge and a chair when something unexpected happened. My bar start bending to the point, I thought I was going to pressure by half. At the time I reached the line peeled off the reel as fast as old, I did not know what to do.
When I tried to pull the rod sandspike, both left the arena. Then I felt the incredible power of the fish at the other end. I was hooked at once. All I could do was there, waiting to see the coil of wire cutting. In what seemed like seconds, the line was exhausted and I discovered one of the largest ever tied knots it. On second thought, probably I have something good tail. I would not have been the first clue of how to handle something so big.
After the high "snap" my online art I stayed there for hours, being eaten alive by mosquitoes and barely be noticed. I just lost a battle very quickly with a bug that I called. I was sure that does not happen again in a few minutes, I stupidly convinced myself that I knew exactly what to do next time … Could not be more wrong.
In my personal experience when it comes to fishing, he are two certainties: If I want fish, I must go out and put in the time to prepare and expect the unexpected. Knowledge acquired the more humble I become.
