Buy a reel. In my humble opinion, turning maintenance are as good (if not better) than "conventional" type baitcaster reels for surf fishing. If you buy a reel turning decent, you can say goodbye to the "bird's nest" and get a good "distance" in a model. Shimano "Spheres" Quantum "Cabo" Penn "SMS" or "special safeguard mechanism" These three reels saltwater reels are excellent for surf casting spinning.
