How scientists can verify this statement? (Does that give the best answer)?
A newspaper article reports that some carp in a local pond is about 50 years. How scientists can verify this statement? A. counting the number of growth rings on a scale of a fish B. By comparing the size of fish in the lagoon C. comparing the color of the fish with the color of the young fish from the lagoon even D. counting the layers of darkness and light in a cross section of the fishway Thanks to everyone.
Length has a limited use of slow-growing species or Fish live a decade or more. The scales are very useful for the aging of certain fish such as carp. In fact, they mark the year they occur during the slower growth in winter, like tree rings has also wide annual rings. For the ancient species long term is the best in otolith sections (head and bones of the spine), fin rays and bones or vertebrae. (As one of options you have forgotten). Anyone who has done much know-fish can change color due to stressors or others who have the size too. It seems A is the way forward. A cross section of a scale that did not make much sense to D is not fair.
